He died yesterday afternoon in Milan where he was born, Giulio Giorello, philosopher of science, intellectual and multifaceted scholar.
Had 75 years and had recently been discharged from the Polyclinic where he remained hospitalized for a long time for Corona Virus.
At home he seemed to have recovered so much that a few days ago he had married his partner, Roberta Pelanchin.
Graduated in philosophy and mathematics, holder of the chair of Philosophy of Science at the State University of Milan and later professor emeritus as happens to those who acquire great prestige and recognized merits.
Giulio Giorello was part of the jury of the citocademico prize and I believe that, together with Edoardo Boncinelli in the non-fiction sector, has raised the already very high quality of the jurors, in particular relationship to the scientific culture that helped to spread, it is a highly meritorious work in a nation like ours which is unfortunately lacking in it.
The times I have had the opportunity to speak with him I have always caught a subtle ironic vein and an uncommon intelligence.
He was careful, never opinionated and weighed every word he uttered. It was clear that he was a free man, it did not belong to any church; away from those mental conditionings that chain us to the obvious and trivial conventions.
He knew how to be disenchanted so much that he did not fear or find reductive for an intellectual as he was, mention Tex Willer or Mickey Mouse being a great fan of comics. He said how important it is to maintain the tolerance of different opinions because in the discussion that arises, there is a great opportunity to grow.
I like to remember the words of Boncinelli who knew him well read on today's Corriere: “It was one of the most penetrating rumors, free and clean in the cultural world, he was able to talk about everything effortlessly, he had an open mind and an intellectual honesty that I have never met in others ".
Now he is a great lover of freedom, has found the real one and rests there.
